About GSBH
A message from Bob Atkins:
Hi, I am Bob Atkins, the founder and director for Gentle Spirit Behavioral Health. I have been clean and sober for almost 12 years. I have been preparing for this line of work for over 40 years. It takes a lifetime of pain and years of gratitude to be able to connect with a person who has a serious problem, but is not yet ready to admit that they need help.
I am a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor and a Board Certified Interventionist. I am an associate member of the Association of Interventionist Specialist. I have been trained in the following approaches:
- All Models of Intervention*
- Safe Family Meeting Intervention Approach
- Substance Abuse Counseling
- Suicide Prevention
- Understanding & Treating Metaphor Dependence
- Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome
- Eating Disorders
- Crisis Intervention
- Anger Management
I specialize in drug and alcohol abuse, as well as working with people who have a dual diagnosis, which means both a substance abuse problem and a mental illness.
Our therapist is Phil Licata who has a Master's Degree in Addictions Counseling, LCPC, CADC, and a licensed psychotherapist. Phil has been in recovery for almost 14 years. He has worked with hundreds of addicts and families who have suffered from the disease of addiction.
WHY BOB THINKS HIS INTERVENTION AND TREATMENT CENTER IS DIFFERENT
GOAL ORIENTED
I see my job simply as getting a person into treatment and to begin the healing process for the family.
AFFORDABLE
Since it is my mission to pass on the gift of recovery to people still suffering from addictions, I charge less than most intervention companies. It is my way of giving back for my gift of recovery. Our treatment center is the most economical center in America. Our clients participate in cooking, shopping, and cleaning which enables us to keep our costs low and to teach our clients to become responsible for their own care.
HIGH SUCCESS RATE
Interventions - I use a non-confrontational family meeting approach instead of "surprising" or "ambushing" your loved one. Because of this approach, there is very little anger from your loved one because they will feel respect, love, and support. He or she is more willing to listen and go into treatment.
Treatment Center - Our experience has shown that 30 days of treatment is rarely sufficient for a client to get clean. We also know that each client has a set of unique characteristics that may prevent them from following a rigid and strict treatment plan. We look at every client as a unique individual as well as the family, and will tailor a treatment program specifically for them. We will not recommend that a client be released until there is a high expectation for a successful recovery.
Transitional Living - Our transitional living houses provide a loving and caring atmosphere of recovery. each house has a full-time staff person, but the clients are empowered to make many decisions on their own. Transitional housing provides a safe way for clients to re-enter society by holding a job or returning to school, while continuing to build a strong foundation of recovery. The fees for transitional living are very modest.
FOLLOWUP
GSBH will follow up with clients and families as long as needed. Once a family becomes a client of GSBH there will be free consultation available as long as necessary. Our goal is for clients and families to heal no matter how long it takes, and sometimes change is a very slow process. Even though most families have lost a lot of patience and faith, GSBH will be there to hold your hand for as long as it takes.
