We know that addiction has not only affected the addict, it has led to a total collapse of the family system. The family has been torn apart and believes that if the addict gets clean, all will be well. Nothing could be further from the truth. For every addict that the disease has destroyed there are many family members that will continue to suffer if they do not begin healing themselves. We also know that the involvement of family members is imperative to the addict learning how to heal themselves as well. There is no additional charge for this service, it is included in the treatment center fees.

At GSBH we offer an outstanding family therapy program. Our therapist will work with the family either in person, over the telephone, or even over the internet if need be. Families will be given assignments to complete while the client is working on his/her recovery. Once the assignments are completed, our therapist will help the family go through them. Education about addiction and how to deal with an addict, even in recovery is very important to the client remaining clean and the family getting healed.

We will also refer families to such groups as Families Anonymous or Alanon so they have a support group for themselves just as the addict will have support from their 12-step groups and sponsor. The goal of our family program is to reunite the client with their loved ones when both are ready and the time is appropriate.
