Transitional Living
In order to help a client transitions from treatment to living on there own we have our own halfway house program. Some call it a halfway house, a sober living environment, a three quarter house, or an Oxford. We prefer the term transitional living and the name really doesn’t matter, it is how the program is administered.
Clients live is a suburban house similar to the treatment center with a full time, live in house manager. Clients are required to either work a minimum of 25 hours per week or go to school. Clients will have group meetings in the house and plan their own clean up schedules and extra curricular activities such as barbeques or trips to Chicago. Clients will do their own shopping for food and their own cooking, although some clients prefer to join together and shop and cook as a group.
Clients will be required to attend a minimum of two outside recovery meetings each week and will be tested for drugs on a random basis. Clients who appear to be having difficulty making the transition will receive free counseling from our professional counseling staff. Clients may also continue their therapy from the treatment center with the same counselor they started with. That counseling service can either be paid for with insurance or a discounted sliding fee scale.
The house will have a bi-weekly dinner were clients invite their sponsors to participate with a meeting after words. Clients will also participate in local recovery activities such as conventions and dances. An important difference between GSBH and many other programs is that the clients do not have the power to make another client leave. Only the staff can force a client out, and that is only under dire circumstances. If a client is trying to remain clean, they can stay unless they hurt another client.
The fee for living in our recovery home is between $100 and $125 per week depending on the number of clients in the house and which house they are in. Cable TV and internet service will be free of charge. GSBH pays all the utility bills. Clients may stay as long as they want. Some people stay for two or more years because they need the structure in their lives.
