Recovery Program - Phase II
The next phase of treatment is where the client begins to realize that they have made poor choices over the years and that there is no one else to blame but themselves. They will also learn about how the disease of addiction has affected them and their families. This is the period of “spiritual awakenings.” All of a sudden, things will become crystal clear to the client. Clients will also begin to identify their using triggers and how to put a relapse prevention plan into action. Clients will begin to try and re-establish broken family relationships when appropriate. Clients will begin to make plans for discharge or to another level of care.
Treatment Goals for Phase II:
- A further breaking down of the resistance to new ideas
- Continued step work with a sponsor
- Service work for the community and peers giving the client a sense of accomplishment
- To begin practicing spiritual principles in all phases of a clients’ life
- Acceptance of a therapeutic relationship with counselors, therapists, and peers
- Developing a relapse prevention plan
- Continued participation of 12-step meetings and participation in recovery activities other than meetings

They will accept the fact that if they ever use again that they will end up in jail, another institution, or dead.
